Most of us have always heard that acupuncture is a miracle treatment that involves very little pain. On the other hand, we’ve seen pictures of or heard stories about facelifts being miserable procedures full of pain. Therefore, the thought of an acupuncture facelift, a concept that’s being promoted right now, can sound very appealing. Who wouldn’t jump at a chance to look years younger without having the pain and recuperative period of a traditional facelift? Does it sound too good to be true? That’s probably because it is. An acupuncture facelift is not a facelift in the true sense of the world. It doesn’t involve any incisions, acid peels, or stitches, and it isn’t going to give you immediate gratification. Although many high-end spas are advertising this treatment as a facelift, the true name of the procedure is acupuncture facial rejuvenation. People who think they are actually having a facelift will end up disappointed, because that’s not the way it works. This centuries-old facial treatment will erase fine lines and reduce the appearance of deeper wrinkles, but it isn’t realistic to expect that it will make you look really young again.
You’ve got to admit that it took decades for your facial skin to get into the condition it’s in. All those years of sun damage and being exposed to the multitude of toxins that are present in our environment have taken a toll that isn’t going to be eradicated very easily. There’s really only so much you can reasonably expect from any procedure short of going through the radical facelift procedure itself. Even then, the results often don’t turn out the way you would want them to. Just look at the celebrities who have had facelifts and don’t even look like themselves any more.
The American Cosmetic Acupuncture Association doesn’t like the term acupuncture facelift being used because of the false expectations the term raises in patients. Cosmetic acupuncture can do a lot of good things for your skin, but it isn’t going to instantly make you look young again. Over time, though, not only has cosmetic acupuncture has been used to reduce wrinkles, but it has been found to firm jowls, reduce bags under the eyes, enhance skin tone, increase energy, correct insomnia, and help control weight gain. As it turns out there is a real benefit in having what is known as an acupuncture facelift.
