Where can I find Mango ginger and tender turmeric root in Singapore?

In India we use mango ginger root and tender turmeric root to make a pickle. I am unable to find this herb in Singapore. Incase anyone here is aware about where they sell it please reply. Also I would like to know the chinese or malay name or this herb so that i can ask the locals near my house.

I guess you must be from Kerala… Forgive me for asking the obvious but have you tried the greengrocers in and around Tekka market in Serangoon?

I don’t know what mango ginger is (sounds delicious) but you can get fresh whole turmeric in Geylang Serai temporary market. It’s called “kunyit” (say “koon-yit”) in Malay. Ask around for mango ginger there as the stallholders are helpful. I was looking for particular herbs for nasi kerabu – and the first stallholder who didn’t have them but pointed me in the right direction actually took my bag from me afterwards and rifled through it to make sure I had got them all right, lol.

Or at a pinch, look out for smaller neighbourhood wet market stalls that sell lemongrass and galangal – “blue ginger” in Chinese – as the three including turmeric are common ingredients in Peranakan, Malay and Thai cooking. Though stock would be rather more limited as fewer and fewer people bother cooking from scratch.
