Different Oils

Different Oils
can someone give me a list of the different oils and butters used in soaps and lotions and their properties?

If you will explore the Mountain Rose Herbs site, you’ll find descriptions of all the carrier oils and butters.

Generally speaking: Turkey Red oil is saponified castor oil and is the only one suitable for bath oil; Grape Seed oil is a light, inexpensive carrier suitable for normal skin; Avocado oil is heavier and more suited to dry or mature skin; Coconut oil (solid at 65 degrees) has a light fragrance of its own and is typically used in soaps–also has long shelf life; Shea butter is great for a light, water-resistant barrier; Jojoba oil is good on dry hair and keeps almost indefinitely at room temp.

The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

$26.47

This is the perfect starter book for anyone interested in aromatherapy and an excellent reference for more experienced practitioners. THE COMPLETE BOOK OF ESSENTIAL OILS includes an extensive index of oils, their most common uses, and recipes that can be prepared with minimal material. Valerie Ann Worwood, an aromatherapist who heads her own aromatherapy research firm in the U.K., recommends 10 basic oils and bases her recipes and blends on them. After each recipe, other oils are discussed as possible substitutions. Minor changes in each recipe can result in different scents and change the therapeutic benefits of a blend. This means that the book can grow with the reader's knowledge and collection of essential oils. Recipe topics include Basic Travel Kit, The Body Beautiful, which includes oils and powders for the face and hair, and The Gentle Touch for Babies, to name but a few. Over 160 oils are listed with instructions on how to use them, finding and recognizing quality oils, diffusing techniques, and safety indications.

The Complete Book of Incense, Oils& Brews

The Complete Book of Incense, Oils& Brews

$23.71

Everything from herbal oils, bath salts, and incense to inks, roots, and dried herbs is discussed in this informative encyclopedia, wherein magic becomes an extension of spirituality or meditation. The first rule of magic is harm no one, and in those terms magic begins to make sense from a holistic/healing standpoint, linking herbology, aromatherapy, ritual, creative visualization, and prayer. The book covers hundreds of different plants, barks, flowers, seeds, roots, stalks, etc.: their effects, their uses both medical and magical, and the best ways of preparing and blending them for tinctures, oils, incense, candles, bath oils, and lotions. As a document that exists squarely within the unexplored middle ground between folklore and tested science, this book should be equally at home in a vegetarian kitchen, a holistic healer's office, a witch's lair, or the home of someone who just wants things to smell nice. Cunningham argues convincingly that by combining spirituality and herbology with magic ritual, there is no limit to what the power of plants and the human mind can accomplish.
