Can jagged rocks in the sea ‘clean’ an oil spill?

I’ve heard that water moving rapidly over rocks in the sea, help purify it. Is there a way rocks in the sea can also help clean up a spill or help the seas recover from it at least…looking for answers.

No, not really. If the Gulf Coast had jagged rocks the best they would do would be to froth up the spill a little bit at the immediate edges — basically like going to a beach with an active wave system (like the Pacific, no the Atlantic or Caribbean). However, this doesn’t actually do much, if anything, in the way of cleaning it, and does absolutely *nothing* in the way of purifying it.

The only way to disperse a spill is by physically removing it, through chemicals, biological mechanisms, or just letting waves and wind break it up far out to sea, at which point the oil will eventually sink and become a problem to bottom dwellers and the free-swimming animals. Essentially, there is no real way that we have to clean spills. If we hit them fast enough, they can be contained (when reasonable), other than that, you just have to deal with the mess that they cause when they hit the shoreline.
