Laszlo in Action

Laszlo in Action

"Laszlo in Action" is the first comprehensive guide to the Laszlo system and its language LZX. OpenLaszlo is an increasingly popular open-source platform for the development and delivery of rich internet applications across multiple platforms: Flash, DHTML, and J2ME. The dramatic emergence of Ajax over the past year was a first step in the transition from page-oriented HTML web applications towards more full-featured rich internet applications. OpenLaszlo provides another important step in this continuing evolutionary process through the increased productivity resulting from LZX’s declarative approach. It provides developers with the tools to create web-based applications offering the usability and interactivity associated with desktop applications, and the low costs associated with web-based deployment. The cross-platform nature of Laszlo LZX applications allows source code with only minimum modifications to run natively on all popular web browsers, on all desktop operating systems, on the Flash platform, and other platforms in the future. Written to address the needs of a wide spectrum of developers, ranging from client-side HTML and JavaScript developers all the way to enterprise-class Java or Rails engineers, this book provides a very hands-on approach towards building applications that solve real-world problems across both the Flash and DHTML platforms. Starting with the fundamentals of Laszlo LZX, the authors quickly move towards applying this knowledge to the design and development of a full-scale application called the Laszlo Market. This provides a working context to assist understanding the underlying concepts of Laszlo LZX and, more importantly, how to apply thisknowledge in innovative ways. The construction of the Laszlo Market proceeds over the course of the book illustrating topics starting with an initial wireframe and storyboard design to optimization issues dealing with the application’s deployment across the Flash and DHTML platforms.

de Laszlo: A Brush with Grandeur: Philip A. de Laszlo 1869-1937

$47.56

Revised and updated Philip de LAAszlo, following a meteoric rise to recognition in his native Hungary, settled in Britain in 1907 and became the leading portrait-painter in the country–taking over from Sargent. He painted members of almost every royal family in Europe and very many more. He painted the present Queen Elizabeth as a girl, as well as the late Queen Mother and George VI. He is known especially as a portraitist of beautiful women (including Elinor Glyn), but his male portraits are very forceful and his talent was universal — including landscape, animal subjects, and children, and drawings and sketches as well as oil paintings. This book, the previous edition of which accompanied the first retrospective exhibition of de LAAszlo since his death in 1937, illustrates a rich and representative selection of his work, drawn from a range of private collections, and, aided by stunning color plates, reintroduces this well-known but little studdied artist to a wider public. Its distinguished contributors include Christopher Lloyd, formerly Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures, GAAbor BellAAk, curator of 19thcentury Paintings and Drawings at the Hungarian National Gallery, Richard Ormond, formerly Director of the National Maritime Museum and a recognized authority on Sargent, and Christopher Wood, well known for his books on 19thcentury art. The catalogue entries, by Sandra de Laszlo, contain fascinating biographical as well as art historical information.

Philip de László (1869–1937) was born into a humble Hungarian family in Budapest and rose to become the preeminent portrait artist working in Britain between 1907 and 1937. He painted nearly 3,000 portraits, including those of numerous kings and queens, four American presidents, and countless members of the European nobility. “Has any one painter ever before painted so many interesting and historical personages?” asked his contemporaries. There has been no biography of him since 1939, and this new account of both his life and his work draws on previously untapped material from the family archive of over 15,000 documents, to which the author has had unrivaled access. It establishes the intrinsic importance of his art and re-positions him in his rightful place alongside his great contemporaries John Singer Sargent, Sir John Lavery, and Giovanni Boldini.

The Evolutionary Outrider: The Impact of the Human Agent on Evolution, Essays Honouring Ervin Laszlo

$46.95

The overriding challenge for our species during the 21st century, many believe, will be that of evolving…or becoming extinct. Can the theory of evolution be expanded into a source of guidance that could help our species save itself? This collection brings together the thinking of scholars in a wide range of fields in social as well as natural science directed to this end. Moving beyond a critique of neo-Darwinism and sociobiology to explore the action implications of new theory–including Loye’s reconstruction of the long ignored full vision of Charles Darwin and Laszlo’s new QVI "fifth field" theory– essays explore the potential for the impact of self-organizing and self-regulating organism, of the biology of love, and the moral directional thrust of the human, as revealed in new discoveries in the fields of biology, psychology, brain research, sociology, economics, history, cultural evolution, and Darwinian re-evaluation. As such, the collection will be of interest to the educational community, the futurist community, and the more general "global foresight" community of concerned people.

Laszlo Moholy-Nagy Und Die Dynamik Der Gro Stadt

Laszlo Moholy-Nagy Und Die Dynamik Der Gro Stadt
